Design Naif
December Pattern of the Month:
Why Design Naif Has Been a Best-Seller for Decades
Step aside, minimalist white dinnerware. This December, we’re celebrating the beloved Design Naif collection as December’s Pattern of the Month. Design Naif has been bringing whimsical joy to tables for years. This collection is a little piece of folk art history.

What Does “Naif” Mean?
The term “Naif” (or Naïve Art) refers to a style of painting characterized by childlike simplicity in its subject matter and technique. It’s often marked by bright colors, and an unpretentious depiction of scenes.
In 1979, we brought this charming style to our dinnerware by collaborating with French fold artist, Gerard Laplau. His idyllic pastoral scenes were a perfect fit and thus, Design Naif was born!

Each Plate Tells a Story
The little world Laplau created makes this collection so endlessly engaging. Instead of a single, repetitive pattern, each piece depicts a snapshot of life in a charming country village.
Whether you're starting your first collection or adding to one that spans generations, Design Naif holds a special place in the hearts of tableware enthusiasts. Its timeless charm ensures it remains a treasured favorite, passed down from mother to daughter.
